For sale is an antique trade card folder. This is the oldest Leap Year Ball trade card I was able to find in my research.
Very rare and unique folder containing a List of Dances for the Grand Leap Year Ball Given by the Ladies of Wells, At the Bull's Head Hotel, Wells, ENevada, Wednesday Eve'g, February 29th, 1888.
Inside contains dances and a spot for a name. Typically women would ask men for dances at these Leap Year Balls.
The back contains names of people that helped prepare the Ball, including Committees.. Last names such as Hamill, Honeman, Hanks, Steele, Genesy, Meigs, Holm, Weeks, Whisman, Coryell, Musser, Harney.
The old leap day (February 29) custom of women proposing marriage to men is reflected in early accounts of dances and parties celebrating past leap days and leap years.
~Size: 3.5" x 4-3/8" Closed - Decent condition. Pink coloration on bottom half, unsure if that was intentional or not. Possible minor moisture exposure, causing minor wave in middle. Minor rip on right side of top.. Date Feb 29, 1888. Inside contains names penciled in. See all scans for details. Date decade is approximate. If you need any more information, please message me.
