Postcard DINAH'S SHACK Restaurant Highway 101 Roadside c1950sBlack Americana, African American Historical Memorabilia.Dinah's opened in 1926 by Charles & Hazel McMonagle and named as a tribute to the beloved black woman who raised Hazel in Kansas. It served largely African American influenced Southern food. The restaurant burned down in 1942 and moved to another location on the property. The restaurant featured a mammy logo and many other symbols of slavery which became controversial in later years. The restaurant closed due to a poor economy in 1989 after the San Francisco Earthquake.Palo Alto, Calif.
