Item Description

This Patriotic World War I era French Postcard has an embossed border surrounding a beautifully embroidered 'pocket' of thin, translucent material depicting various flowers (eg a daisy), a blue, white, and red crest with the initials 'RF' (République Française), and 'Fleurs de France' (Flowers of France) in blue, white, and red embroidered letters.

The pocket opens to expose a small card (business card size) printed upon which are various flags and 'Souvenir de Glorieuse Memoire ( Souvenir of a Glorious Memory) 1914 - 1914, Best Wishes.'

Content is a hand-written note in pencil advising the intended recipient that his address in France is unchanged, and ends rather bizarrely with "...officer who used to receive at Eatons is dead, best Love to all. Yours truly, Seth."

Addressed to Toronto, Canada but without any franking or markings, this postcard was likely never mailed (other possibility would be soldier's free mail).
