_Miss Lilian Davies rose to fame in 1923 when "Polly" was produced. After performing as a principal boy in the pantomine "Jack and the Beanstalk" at Manchester, in the following days she was stricken with pleurisy. An operation was performed which only revealed even more deep-rooted troubles. The soprano died at the age of 37 in April, 1932 being "at the apex of her powers"._
