A postcard of the mixed media artwork _Oedipus Explaining the Enigma_ (_Oedipe expliquant l'énigme_) by the Portugese artist Manuel Casimiro (born 1941). The illustration of Oedipus is from a c.1910s postcard published in France.
This postcard was published in 1978 as part of the _Artists' Postcards_ Series II. The original artworks were exhibited at the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York City in the Fall of 1978, and then traveled nationally under the auspices of the Smithsonian Institution.
Artists' Postcards was a nonprofit organization established by the J. M. Kaplan Fund in New York in 1977. Artists were commissioned to create original works in the precise dimensions of 4 x 6 inches (102 x 153mm). The quality of printing and the diversity of papers, selected to best suit the original artworks, was outstanding.
This postcard is unused and in Near Mint condition. It has a matte finish.
