_Ronald Bell was the royal family's favourite press photographer. Born in Islington, he left school at 14, and after working for picture agencies joined the Press Association, Britain's national news agency, in 1957. As the PA's royal news photographer from 1977 until his retirement in 1990, his consummate professionalism and charm gained the affection and trust of the royals, particularly that of the Queen and the Prince and Princess of Wales._
