Item Description
A nice photo postcard of the Industrial Building of the St, Charles School For Boys in Illinois. Postmarked 1916. The card is in very good condition. Nice edges/corners.Opened in December 1904, the Illinois State Home for Delinquent Boys, also called the St. Charles School and Home for Boys, sat on 901 acres of farm land west of St. Charles. The purpose of the school was to provide the boys with a strong education in both intellectual and vocational studies so that once released they could live a life of “usefulness.”Additionally, the boys were given religious and military training. Soon after the school opened, the St. Charles Chronicle proclaimed it the “greatest institution of its kind, in ground plans and scope of possibilities, that has ever been attempted in America, if not in the known world.”
