Rppc madeira portugal passengers leaving ship by basket real photo postcard 09 rppc madeira portugal passengers leaving ship by basket real photo postcard 09 click images to enlarge description very attractive and historic underexposed real photo postcard yet if held at the right angle it is clear to see passengers departing ship in basket. The very good message explains, " it was very rough when we arrived at madeira so that altho we lay there five hours we could not go ashore. It was necessary too, to take off the passengers on a basket as you see from the picture. The town of funchal is in the background. The boat is a french collier (coal ship?) wishing you the most joyful christmas of your life (signed) herbert" one penny cape of good hope stamp tied by november 30, 1909 cape colony ocean post office. Very scarce card!! Sent 1909, divided back with bottom left corner crease, otherwise light corner bumping & toning. Fair-fine condition. (any streaks on the reverse side of the card are from the scanner and not on the actual card.) base shipping is $2.00 domestic and $3.00 international. Purchases at/over $49.95 must be insured.
