Condition: Soiling along top and right edge, some checking to edges, bumped lower left corner.
Sweet Water Dam San Diego CA. E P Charlton & Co Post Card, Early View Item Description: Postcard: Sweet Water Dam, near San Diego, Cal. Published by the E. P. Charlton & Co. Handwritten message on back says "San Diego has a number of dams in the back country that empty into this one." Divided back. Unmailed. Soiling along top and right edge, some checking to edges, bumped lower left corner. Info: In 1899, E P Charlton and partner sold their 'five and dime' stores to F W Woolworth, a major postcard retailer; Charlton then headed west to set up a chain of publishing stores. However, the 1905 Lewis and Clark Expo adversely affected his agenda and in 1912, Charlton merged his 52 lithographic chain stores with F W Woolworth and became Woolworth's vice-president.
