Item Description

This French World War I postcard titled 'La Guerre Dans Le Nord (The War in the North) / Vermeilles - Panorama de la partie Nord du Village, pris des Ruins du Clocher' (Panorama of the northern part of Vermeilles, taken from the ruins of the bell tower) was mailed by a British Soldier OAS (On Active Service) to Wembley Park, Middlesex, England in 1916.

Soldier's free mail, the postcard was struck by a Field Post Office 140 double circle date stamp and pink, hexagonal censor's handstamp.

Content in part: "We return to the trenches tomorrow after 4 days rest just behind the line."

Postcard specs: '535.' CC&CC (Charles Collas & Compagnie, Cognac, France) logo on picture side and Paris Vise logo verso.
