"Melvin, Iowa, Aug. 21, 1912
Dear Mother and Sister,
Received your letter and was so glad to hear from you. Will answer soon. We are having lots of rain. Monday night it struck Mr. McDougall’s barn and burnt it to the ground. We could see it from Gahan. We have just about a week’s threshing ahead of us yet, but if it rains very often, I bet it will take three weeks or so. Or doesn’t feel good, has pains in his back and sides. All’s well and have to close.
With love to all,
Your son, George"
