VT, Burlington, Vermont, RPPC, Matthew Henry Buckham Funeral December 1910 Product Photo Click Image for Larger Preview Product Information This is a nice vintage early real photo postcard showing a scene of the funeral on December 2 1910 for Matthew Henry Buckham, the University of Vermont President, in Burlington, Vermont. Henry Buckham was born in 1839 in Wallingford, Connecticut, and graduated from Yale University in 1862. He then worked as a tutor at Yale for several years before being appointed as a professor of Greek and Latin at the University of Vermont in 1868. He became the university's president in 1871 at the age of 32, and he held that position for 39 years. During his tenure as UVM's president, Buckham oversaw significant growth and expansion of the university, including the establishment of new academic departments, the construction of new buildings, and the development of the university's research programs. He was also known for his commitment to academic freedom and his advocacy for liberal education. Photographer: Unknown The corners have light wear. The image is nice and clean. Postally unused.
