bg413 Antique wartime real photo postcard of the West Ham Munitions Factory fire on January 19th 1917 . The explosion occurred in Silvertown in West Ham on Friday, 19 January 1917 at 6:52 pm. The blast occurred at a munitions factory that was manufacturing explosives for Britain's First World War military effort. Approximately 50 long tons (50 tonnes) of trinitrotoluene (TNT) exploded, killing 73 people and injuring 400 more, as well as causing substantial damage in the local area. This real photographic postcard shows the factories burning at 10pm by the river and bar a small lower right corner place to allow, and just very slight imperfections, this is mint condition.
